Callahan who played bantam and midget with the Jr. Kings currently plays with the Kelowna Rockets of the WHL and is the son of Jr. Kings Bantam AAA Head Coach Mike Callahan.

FORMER LA JR KINGS MIDGET MAJOR WINS NCAA National Championship...
4/25/2009 - 08:14 AM
Former AAA U18 goaltender Adam Kraus recently won the NCAA Division 1 National Championship with Boston University . This sums it all up.

Adam, recalls first Grade with best friend Adam McPhee and his dad Mike McPhee strapping pillows on his legs, a baseball glove in his hand and a broom in the other with instructions in a Canadian accent, "okay Adam K. you stand here and try to stop Adam M.'s shots from going into the net," years of private lessons, countless practices at 6:00am, travel, more travel, and even more travel, taking shots in your driveway during the Dallas Stars play-offs from neighbor Benoit Hogue, PeeWee Quebec tournament twice, Holiday's away from family, leaving home (Texas) in your junior year of high school to live with Grandparents in California to play for the Los Angeles Jr. Kings - coaches Joe Trotta, then Nelson Emerson and making it to the semi-finals at Nationals, Junior A hockey in Wasilla, Alaska, college hockey for Boston University, (being the first Texan to do so) sophomore year winning the NCAA Division 1 Men's Ice Hockey National Championship with your team-mates - and lifting the trophy...PRICELESS and Worth it ALL! Congratulations to the Kraus Family.

JR KINGS MIDGET AAA TEAMS UPDATE.....
3/17/2009 - 08:06 PM
The 16U and 18U Jr Kings Midget AAA teams spent this past weekend in Las Vegas competing in the Pacific District Championships with a trip to the Nationals on the line.
U18 AAA
The Midget Majors 18U team fulfilled all expectations by winning the Championships. Two intense and hard fought games however stood in the way.
A Saturday night 1-0 victory against a very game California Wave team in the Semi Finals advanced the team into the finals against the Anchorage North Stars. The wave game was called by locals “one of the best midget games ever played in the city” With the score deadlocked at 0-0 and the Kings being turned away on countless great scoring chances, Taylor Aronson was able to bang in his own rebound mid way through the third period. The Kings survived the final frenzy in the last minute as the Wave pulled the goalie and had several good chances but could not get the puck past goalie Eric Chiccone and the Kings won.
In Sunday’s Final against the North Stars, the Kings came from a 2-1 deficit late in the second period when Justin Castagna converted a nifty backhand pass from Gasper Kopitar to tie the game and help get the monkey off the Kings back. The period ended 2-2. The Kings then opened the game up in the third period scoring three goals to win the title 5-2. The team will be heading to Pittsburgh April 1-5 for the National Tournament. No California team has ever won the National Title at the U18 level.
The Kings hope to be the first.

U16 AAA
Perhaps the biggest story of the weekend if not the year is the play of the AAA 16 minors. The team came within one goal of joining the Majors at the Nationals. When the 16’s knocked off the LA Selects in the round robin, it was viewed as an isolated incident. But as fate would have it the Selects and Kings would meet again in the semi finals on Saturday night. The Selects one of the top ranked teams in the country had never lost to the Kings all season prior to this weekend. The game was an intense back and forth battle with both goaltenders making great saves throughout. With the Kings trailing 1-0 and under three minutes remaining winger Colby Rios scored the game tying goal exciting the crowd of Kings supporters who were wondering if they could do it again. The game went to overtime and off the face off the Selects entered the Kings zone and had a few great chances to win the game. After Nick Church denied the Selects attempts the puck went down into the Select zone were Kyle Schwartz picked up a turned over puck and went down the wall. Schwartz now at the circles fired a shot over the goalies glove top shelf short side and operation hard hat was complete. Kings win 2-1 in OT and advance to the finals. In the finals, the team played its heart out only to come up a goal shy when the Alaska All Stars scored the game winner with only two minutes left in regulation. This Kings team exceeded all expectations this year under Coach Frank Salcido's guidance and experience. They played in six finals this season and won three tournaments. They beat all the teams that everyone said they could not. This team exemplified the true spirit of competition and camaraderie and although they were disappointed to not make the Nationals, this team is Champions in the truest meaning. Hats off to you players, and coaches.
